Situated at the crossroads of India, Persia, China, and Central Asia, our homeland is a vibrant collision of global cultures. We founded Lyla to weave this breathtaking, diverse heritage into modern design and share it with the world.
The Visionary
The Wife: Lahore, Anthropology, Designer
Growing up in Lahore, Pakistan’s cultural capital, our designer developed a lifelong obsession with history. With a background in anthropology, she studied how ancient art—like depictions of the Buddha—evolves across empires and eras. Today, she channels that deep curiosity into every sketch, crafting aesthetic motifs that carry millennia of human story.
The Operator
The Husband: Karachi, The Cottage Industry
While Lahore sparked the art, Karachi—the country’s bustling industrial hub—forged our operational grit. Our co-founder grew up witnessing the fierce resilience of the local cottage industry. Watching a family member try and fail twice to open an artisan workshop didn't deter him; it fueled his retail expertise to build a business foundation where master craftsmanship could finally thrive.
The Breakthrough
The Embroidery Innovation
Every great vision eventually meets a roadblock. For us, it was the leather. We wanted to merge the fluid, incredibly intricate embroidery of our heritage with the structured durability of premium leather—a combination that is notoriously difficult to pull off. During our early days, standard needles would snap under the pressure, ruining the leather and halting production. It took months of dedicated partnership with master craftsmen from the local cottage industry to finally crack the code. Through trial, error, and sheer defiance, we sourced and tested specialized needles capable of piercing the tough hide without sacrificing the delicate precision of the thread. When that first, flawless stitch finally held, we knew we had created something extraordinary.
The Union
The Name - LYLA
LYLA is the culmination of everything we are. We believe that every handbag is more than just an accessory - it’s a story waiting to be told. Our brand name, LYLA, is inspired by the timeless collection of Middle Eastern folktales known as One Thousand and One Nights (Alf Laylah wa-Laylah), often known in English as The Arabian Nights.
